Senior LIFE Johnstown Celebrates “Johnstown as Hockeyville USA” Nomination

Senior LIFE Johnstown hosted a Hockeyville Celebration on Friday, May 15th. Johnstown was recently selected as America’s most passionate hockey community. Johnstown received the award for most hockey-enthusiastic community and hockey arenas in the United States. The winning Johnstown War Memorial Arena received the title of Kraft Hockeyville, will host the NFL Pre-Season Game, and receive $150,000 towards upgrading their arena.

In celebration of this nomination, Senior LIFE Johnstown hosts a celebration at the center on Broad Street. The Johnstown Tomahawks & Hockeyville Committee visited the center with their beloved mascot, handing out banners, foam fingers, Hockeyville jerseys and signs. The members decorated hockey masks and all enjoyed a Hockeyville “treat” for their snack that day. The center was elaborately decorated in hockey-themes to celebrate staff and members favorite hockey teams.

Staff also participated in the event as they wore their favorite hockey jerseys and represented their favorite teams. During the celebration, there were chances to win door prizes for five official Hockeyville T-Shirts, participate in hockey-related games and discussions, and giveaways for staff and members.

Senior LIFE Johnstown is part of the national Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE), called LIFE in Pennsylvania. The program is funded by Medicare and brings together a coordinated team of doctors, nurses, social workers and therapists to provide seniors with an individualized care plan and coordinated health and personal care services that address their unique medical care and social needs. The services are provided both in the LIFE Center and in the participant’s home. These critical support services allow eligible seniors to remain independent and live in their home and community. There is no cost for the services for those who qualify.
